Setting English not as the Main Language

Leo M shared this problem 3 years ago
Not a Problem

I cant choose English as a second Language or third and so on. Changing the Main Language doesn't make a difference. I'm on a Sony Xperia Z with Android 5.1.1

Feature or problem ?

It's not a bug but you're right that it's not completely clear.

Basically the first language is used for the basic layout (position of the letters). If you add a second or third language only the diacritics will be added. For example with French as second language you can type éèëê when tapping and holding e. Because english has no diacritics at all you can't choose it as second or third language.

But as I said it's not that intuitive and in the final it will probably be possible to select English as additional language - even though it won't have any effect. :)

Thought something like this would be the reason. So the conclusion of your response is that there will be no option to change the layout of the keyboard from qwertz to qwerty to azerty and so on in a fast way ?

Exactly. Our approach is that you get all the letters and diacritics you need in one layout. Like this you save time because you don't have to switch between languages and learn multiple completely different layouts. And all diacritics are just one tap (and hold :)) away.

But of course you can change to QWERTZ or AZERTY if you select German or French as first language.
